PE and Sport Premium
Active, confident and ready for adventure
At Amington Heath Primary School and Nursery, physical activity is an important part of everyday school life. We want every child to enjoy being active, develop confidence and physical skills, experience a wide range of sports and activities and understand the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle.
Our approach extends beyond PE lessons. Children benefit from active play through OPAL, outdoor learning, enrichment opportunities, sporting clubs, competitions and opportunities to develop leadership skills.
The PE and Sport Premium is additional government funding provided to primary schools to make sustainable improvements to the quality of PE, sport and physical activity.

PE and Sport Premium 2025–26
Amington Heath Primary School and Nursery received £17,600 of PE and Sport Premium funding for the 2025–26 academic year.
The full allocation was spent during the year, with no funding carried forward.
How We Used the Funding
Our final Department for Education expenditure return records the following spending:
- Staff training and professional development: £2,000
- Extra-curricular opportunities: £4,506
- Equipment and resources: £7,720.60
- Membership and subscription fees: £1,410
- Activities organised through the School Games Organiser network: £410
- External school sports competitions: £513.40
- External coaching and specialists: £1,040
Funding was also specifically targeted to improve opportunities and participation for pupils with SEND, disadvantaged pupils and girls.
Impact of the Funding
Our PE and Sport Premium funding has supported our wider aim of making physical activity accessible, enjoyable and inclusive for all children.
During 2025–26 this included:
- developing active and inclusive lunchtime provision through OPAL and pupil activity leaders
- increasing opportunities for children with SEND and disadvantaged pupils to participate in physical activity and sport
- providing a broad range of free extra-curricular sporting opportunities
- supporting staff knowledge and confidence through training and high-quality PE resources
- increasing opportunities for children to experience competitive sport
- providing equipment and resources to support high-quality PE and physical activity
- using pupil voice to identify barriers to participation and improve the activities available
Pupil feedback about lunchtime activity was particularly positive. Our end-of-year evaluation found that:
- 92% of pupils sampled said they were happy or very happy with the activities available at lunchtime
- 89% said they were involved in games at lunchtime
- 97% said they enjoyed lunchtime
- 100% of pupils surveyed said they had joined in with a game led by our activity leaders

Swimming and Water Safety
Swimming and water safety form an important part of the National Curriculum for PE.
At the end of the 2025–26 academic year:
- 50% of Year 6 pupils could swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
- 67% could use a range of strokes effectively
- 10% could perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
Improving swimming and water-safety outcomes remains an important area for development.
Making Improvements Sustainable
PE and Sport Premium funding is used to create improvements that can continue beyond a single academic year.
We support sustainability by:
- developing staff knowledge and confidence through professional development
- investing in high-quality equipment and resources
- developing pupil leaders who encourage other children to be active
- embedding active play through our OPAL provision
- using pupil voice and participation data to identify groups who may need additional encouragement or support
- continuing to develop inclusive opportunities for SEND and disadvantaged pupils
- identifying ways to increase girls’ participation in sport and physical activity
- maintaining links with local competitions, sports organisations and specialist providers
