Pupil Premium

Equity, ambition and opportunity for every child

At Amington Heath Primary School and Nursery, we are committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to achieve well, take part fully in school life and leave us ready for the next stage of their education.

The Pupil Premium is additional government funding provided to schools to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils.

We use this funding carefully to address barriers to learning, strengthen teaching and provide wider opportunities that help children to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

Our Approach

Our approach is based on equity rather than equality. This means recognising that children may need different support and opportunities in order to achieve equally ambitious outcomes.

We use the RADY – Raising the Attainment of Disadvantaged Youngsters approach across school.

Our priorities are to:

  • raise expectations for disadvantaged pupils
  • raise awareness of barriers that may affect learning and participation
  • raise aspirations and broaden children’s experiences and opportunities

RADY forms part of our wider school improvement work and helps ensure that disadvantaged pupils are considered across curriculum, teaching, enrichment, attendance, pastoral support and wider school life.

Our RADY Pledge

As part of our RADY approach, we are committed to:

  • having high expectations for disadvantaged pupils and identifying gaps in knowledge, skills and understanding at the earliest opportunity
  • ensuring RADY forms a golden thread through school improvement, with leaders considering disadvantaged pupils within their areas of responsibility
  • working towards proportional representation of disadvantaged pupils across wider opportunities, enrichment and school life
  • ensuring staff understand the RADY approach and how their work contributes to improving outcomes for disadvantaged pupils

How We Use Pupil Premium

High-quality teaching remains at the heart of our strategy because strong classroom teaching has the greatest potential to improve outcomes for disadvantaged pupils.

Depending on identified needs, Pupil Premium funding may also support:

  • targeted academic intervention and additional support
  • early identification of learning and other needs
  • attendance and engagement
  • pastoral and mental health support
  • support for families
  • access to enrichment, trips, residential experiences and wider opportunities
  • resources or provision that remove barriers to participation
  • professional development that strengthens teaching and support across school

We monitor the impact of our provision carefully and adapt support in response to children’s individual needs and progress.

Knowing Our Children Well

We believe that accurate early identification of need and knowing our pupils well are essential to improving outcomes.

Teachers and leaders use assessment, pupil progress information, attendance information, pupil voice and their knowledge of individual children and families to identify barriers and decide what support may be needed.

We aim to avoid assumptions or stereotypes about disadvantaged pupils. Support is based on individual need, and we work closely with families wherever possible.
